Neuro-Affirming Autism & PDA Assessments
At Therapy Center of Buda, we believe that every child’s unique way of experiencing the world deserves to be celebrated, not pathologized. Amy Grant, AuDHD owner/director and certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) specializes in compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming evaluations for children and young adults (ages 1-21).
Amy brings extensive training and lived experience as an Autistic and ADHD professional, alongside her certification as a trauma specialist. Her approach is rooted in the neurodiversity model, which stands in stark contrast to traditional behavioral or ABA-based methods. Instead of focusing on "fixing" or "training" children, we honor their neurodivergence, celebrate their strengths, and provide support that allows them to thrive. |
What makes us different?
- Neurodiversity-Affirming Care: We embrace and celebrate neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ identities, and the unique ways your child experiences the world.
- Trauma-Informed Approach: Amy’s expertise as a certified trauma specialist ensures evaluations are sensitive to both client and family traumas.
- Proprietary Testing: We go beyond standard assessments (ADOS-2) to explore demand avoidance (PDA and otherwise), Autistic burnout, camouflaging (masking), school refusal, and the symbiotic relationship between Autism and ADHD.
- Strengths-Based Focus: Unlike evaluations that focus on deficits, we identify where differences have been pathologized and provide actionable plans to support your child’s growth.
- Family-Centered Support: We provide resources and guidance to help families navigate challenges and heal together.
PhilosophyAs Dr. Ross Greene says, “kids do well when they can.” We believe that behavior is communication, and when children struggle, it’s not because they’re “defiant” or “difficult”—it’s because they need support. Society often insists that children should look, act, and develop in a certain way, but this antiquated mindset doesn’t serve anyone.
If your child is “marching to their own beat,” struggling with anxiety, school refusal, or demand avoidance, or if you’re feeling overwhelmed as a parent, we’re here to help. Our collaborative approach ensures that you and your child feel seen, heard, and supported. |
What we don't doWe do not collaborate with or support ABA practices. If you’re seeking an evaluation to access ABA services, we will respectfully decline. Our mission is to empower Autistic children to thrive as their authentic selves, not to train them to conform to societal expectations.
